Better GUI for the Zonebbs

Hey guys.
It's `bout time something is done!
The GUI on the Zone is very unappealing and I propose that something be done about this.
To show users on the zone, you can maybe set it up in a table, and do this with the people on the voice chat server putting people in the first colomn, chanel, in the second collomn, and diration in the third colomn.
Simple things like this will make the site look much better and these features are not hard to implement.
RIght now, it's very confusing becase all of the text just flows in to itself, it's like a word document.

It makes perfect sense for the screen reader users. A table would as well, but this layout is really quite straight forward for the non-visual people. However, as I'm not an admin, I can't say it won't change or it will. Just wanted to put in a comment.

I agree with Tyr; the current layout seems fine to me.

I'd also agree. Tables are readable in jaws, but it's more trouble than I want to go through every time I go on here.

My take on this issue is that this web site has primarily been set up for the use of visually impaired users and if the majority of them are happy with the current format of the pages then I see no good reason for change and judging by the responses to this topic thus far, the majority are happy so I think the likely hood of change is highly unlikely.

Thanks,Dan AKA Harp.

Hmm. I can see both sides of this argument because I think a site should look good as well as be screen reader friendly. Ironically, I came across a site once that said it was endorsed by Dolphin Computer Access, but that couldn't be read by Supernova. Well anyways, aren't there ways of having the info come up on the screen one way and jaws reading it another?

maybes it'd be something the admins could look at if more people say it needs to change. TTFN.

i think it is good as it is. tables just make it harder 6work with.

I also agree with the majority.
I like it the way it is. It works fine with screen readers.

I would like to add my vote to leave well enough alone and let it stay the way it is.

Leave it the way it is. The amount of work to make it usable for blind and visually appealing is not worth it, when sited people wouldn't want to use it anyway. That time could be spent on improving other aspects of it.

I do like it the way it is, but if someone did want to make some sort of change, I've come up with something i think would look good, but conservative as well.

I have to agree with the majority here. Leave it as is.

I like it the way it is, but just to correct Dan; this site wasn't originally set up for the blind user but that's the way it turned out Lol

leave it alone

Apologies yes Rachel that is in fact true. Never the less as you also point out, that is how it has turned out so my general point still stands! lol

Post 18 by TylerK (This site is so "educational") on Sunday, 20-Aug-2006 19:32:08

No point in changing it, it's great the way it is. The "summary" and "caption" attributes of the <table> tag work very well. No need for extratags if we don't need them.

It's fine the way it is. No tables! They're evil.

Post 20 by JH_Radio (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Sunday, 20-Aug-2006 22:39:42

I don't know how to read tables, tables are confusion. Leave it the way it is, please.

I'd be well in favour of anything which might encourage sighted people to the site as well as blind people. However, the interests of the screen reader user has to come first as the majority of current users are screen reader users.
